Barbara Gatsiou-Spyridaki was born in 1952 in the village of Zitsa near Ioannina, Greece. She developed an interest in painting while studying mathematics at the University of Ioannina. In 1985, while working as mathematician, she enrolled in the Fine Arts program in the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart, Germany and worked in the ateliers of Professors K.R.H. Sonderborg and Moritz Baumgartl. She relocated to Greece in 1988 and continued her studies at the School of Fine Arts at the Technical University of Crete in 1998.

She now lives and works in Chania, Crete and specializes in painting using oil and aquarelle. Her work focuses on people and their everyday lives and subjects inspired by nature. Barbara's paintings have been displayed in solo exhibitions in Stuttgart, Chania, Zitsa and Rethymno.
